Patriarchal Avengers Unite!

Just saw a post where someone said an Avengers movie poster was a sign of the patriarchy.

Here’s the heinous poster in question.

They had this to say about the above poster:

Well here we have the standard Avengers movie poster.  Everyone in their heroic pose, but something is a little different for Black Widow.  It seems, somehow (*gasp*) that some of her superpowers must come from displaying a well defined tuckus to the gaze of the viewer.

Is anyone else showing off their super-tuckus?  Evidently not.

God damn it! I knew it!

The patriarchy has moved in and while Black Widow is forced to show off her bottom, the rest are showing off their insanely muscular chests and abs. You’d never suspect that in a movie about literal superheroes.

However, a quick google search is all that is needed to show how disingenuous this argument is.

Oh god damn it, Hulk! You are now part of the matriarchy you bastard.

iron-man

You are such an asshole, Iron Man. Taking all that privilege to show off your ass. Look at Hulk in the background, still trying to show off his sweet green ass but Iron Man wants to block it with his fat head and steal all that limelight.

And Black Widow, how dare you face the camera head-on.

hulk_

Hulk, you’re a complete jackass. Hogging all that ass-time.

You won’t like me when I go all patriarchy on your…sweet…sweet…green….*drool*

On a serious note, this is why you can’t be taken seriously. What you’re talking about here is nonsense that skeptical, thinking people shouldn’t fall for…ever.

It took me a total of one minute to show how nonsensical your original point was. I originally did a google image search to see if you had made a valid point, but looks like you were just seeing what you wanted to see.

I’m at least happy to know that you don’t think I’m stupid. I know the level of research you put into your post certainly shows an insight and educational prowess that I couldn’t hope to achieve.

I’ll be able to sleep soundly tonight.

  1. The glory thing about posters like this, and movies, and books, and and and well, all that stuff, is that you can find almost anything you want that validates anything you want validated. Oh, wait. Sorta like the bible…
And it’s not under educated but undereducated. If anyone is curious.

This is a manosphere? Wow. Cool.

  2. Oh dear. then I shouldn’t be here.
The Avengers aren’t patriarchal, they’re just silly. Hulk is so muscle bound it’s a wonder he can even think.

She isnt even using the word properly.

    (adjective
    1.
of or relating to a patriarch, the male head of a family, tribe, community, church, order, etc.:
    my father’s conservative, patriarchal ways.
    2.
characteristic of an entity, family, church, etc., controlled by men:
    the highly patriarchal Mormon church.)

  3. Lmao – I love this! XD Honestly, I’m pretty sure… no… *absolutely* sure that maybe, just maybe, there are women all over the world sexualizing the male Avengers too. Shame on them! This must be stopped. The Avengers should all wear shapeless, asexual superhero tarps, and promise to always face the camera in a non-sexual pose, preferably covering their naughty bits with some kind of attached sandwich board.

Not sure how they’re going to fly around and do all those cool fight scenes while killing it in their new sandwich board tarp combo suits, but I’m sure they’ll think of something. 🙂

  4. Actually they’re fun, but I think most women prefer a bit more reality to their fantasies…(don’t ask. ever)
I do think that hiding the bodies ain’t gonna happen. Even the original Superman wore skintights, even if he was covered.

    • That’s true – all comic book heroes, male or female, seem to prefer spandex, or possibly body paint, lol, when choosing their heroic, crime-fighting gear. XD I don’t really see this as offensive though.

Heroes and Heroines are usually these idealized archetypes that are supposed to inspire or impress readers/movie goers in some way – with their strength, or their beauty, or their sense of justice, or their mad super powers, etc – but mainly, they’re just meant to entertain, and bring people out of reality for a bit.

If Black Widow had to worry about going out of her way to avoid showing her butt or boobs in every single scene, and wore a superhero tarp, while the men don’t have to do any of that stuff, someone somewhere will call that sexism too, lol. There is no winning.

Besides, why does it have to be an insult to be found beautiful? Maybe I’m thinking about this all wrong, but who ever decided that something beautiful can’t be powerful? Even in nature, some of the most beautiful creatures and plants are the most deadly. They’re eye-catching, graceful, and sometimes vibrantly colored, and then they kill you, lol.

Personally, I think Black Widow is a very strong, very beautiful character, and she shamelessly uses that to her advantage. She doesn’t waste time worrying about whether or not she’s the equal of her male counterparts, she already *knows* she is, so it’s a non-issue.

“On a serious note, this is why you can’t be taken seriously. What you’re talking about here is nonsense that skeptical, thinking people shouldn’t fall for…ever.”

Quite frankly, whether you take it seriously or not is not my concern. 🙂 Do note that in two of three avengers posters BW is gracing us with her tuckus view,

Just because you found a poster than doesn’t have her obviously objectified, doesn’t disprove the original example.

“It took me a total of one minute to show how nonsensical your original point was. “

I believe it was you who made the assumption that *every* movie poster must display female objectification, and if every poster doesn’t then – checkmate feminist. It would be nice if you argued against my arguments, as opposed to what you think my arguments are. 🙂

Speaking of hollywood misogyny take a peek at the headless women of hollywood post.

I’m sure there is more rational dudely debunking to be had.

“I’m at least happy to know that you don’t think I’m stupid. “

Ignorant AF of the issues that women have to deal with, but not stupid by any stretch of the imagination.

“I know the level of research you put into your post certainly shows an insight and educational prowess that I couldn’t hope to achieve.”

Well keep trying kiddo, you may learn something if you decide to stick around. 🙂

“I’ll be able to sleep soundly tonight.”

Male privilege is a warm snuggly-hug on a cold winters night.

    • “Do note that in two of three avengers posters BW is gracing us with her tuckus view”

Um, no. In one of the three I used, and her male compatriots were doing the same, as well as showing off their insanely muscled bodies.

“Just because you found a poster than doesn’t have her obviously objectified, doesn’t disprove the original example.”

Kind of does. Just shows I can make the same knucklehead argument you originally made.

“I believe it was you who made the assumption that *every* movie poster must display female objectification, and if every poster doesn’t then – checkmate feminist. It would be nice if you argued against my arguments, as opposed to what you think my arguments are. ”

No. In fact, the first two I used are official movie posters. Yours appears to be a computer generated picture or something.

You didn’t actually make an argument either. You just showed one picture and pretended like it proves your patriarchy theory.

“Ignorant AF of the issues that women have to deal with, but not stupid by any stretch of the imagination.”

Thank you. Not sure what AF is but thanks anyways.

“Male privilege is a warm snuggly-hug on a cold winters night.”

This made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that.

  6. Meaning no disrespect at all, The Dead must be a homosexual with no idea at all about the masculine and feminine attributes of mankind.

“Patriarchy” is a leftist label that unsuccessfully substitutes the understanding of human nature for the ignorance thereof.

  7. one thing no one has apparently noted: with all the hooha about female body parts, no one has noticed that there is only ONE female at all, and in every one of those covers where she’s portrayed at all, she’s also portrayed as over there to one side, or way back there and teeny, but never as part of the pack. In one shot she’s actually facing OUT from the rest of them. In another she’s somewhere in the middle ground.
Not sure what it says, but it sure doesn’t give you the feeling she will be doing much on her own to save the world from Ratman or BulletHead…she is, forgive me, the token feeemale. Good butt or not.
